Taste of the Nation Toledo receives two recognitions at Share our Strength’s conference of leaders

Share our Strength’s “Conference of Leaders“ was held October 21st-24th in New Orleans. The conference is an annual event that brings community leaders together from around the country to share ideas and recognize outstanding achievements in the fight to end hunger. Toledo’s committee was one of nine honored as Best Committee.

Also honored was Gus Mancy, one of two recipients for Community Leader — Taste of the Nation 2006. Gus was one of 20 nominated, with other nominees from New York, Detroit, Ft. Lauderdale, Boston, Portland, Houston and elsewhere.

The eleventh annual Taste of the Nation Toledo will be held Sunday, April 29th, 2007. It will be held at Gumbo’s on the docks. The last five years have sold out prior to the event. Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation is the nation’s largest and finest culinary benefit supporting the effort to end childhood hunger in America. Every spring, thousands of the best chefs and restaurants donate their time, talent and product at more than 60 events throughout the United States and Canada. Funds raised are granted to local organizations that work to end childhood hunger in communities which Taste events are held and across the country. National sponsorships of Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation, combined with local sponsorships and contributions from participating restaurants, chefs, and volunteers, ensure that 100 percent of ticket proceeds from each event supports anti-hunger efforts. Toledo’s 2006 grant recipients include: Toledo Grows, Northwest Ohio Foodbank, Toledo Day Nursery and The Aurora Project.
